Ottawa, located in Ontario along the Quebec border, is a bilingual city where both English and French are spoken. Renowned for its rich heritage, Ottawa has consistently ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world.
Parliament Hill:
As the seat of Canada's federal government, Parliament Hill stands atop a hill, offering a panoramic view of the Ottawa River. Its historic Gothic Revival buildings are central to the identity of both the city and the country.
The Peace Tower:
At nearly 98 meters tall, the Peace Tower is a striking feature of Parliament Hill. It houses a 4.88-meter four-sided clock and 53 bells, which symbolize Canada’s commitment to peace.
The Centennial Flame:
Lit in 1967 to mark Canada's centennial, the flame still burns today, surrounded by plaques representing the country’s 10 provinces and 3 territories. It stands as a symbol of national unity from coast to coast.
Rideau Hall:
As the official residence of the Governor General of Canada, Rideau Hall is a significant national landmark. Recognized as a historic site since 1977, its grounds and buildings reflect Canada's political and cultural heritage.
Rideau Canal:
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, the Rideau Canal is a historic waterway connecting Ottawa to Kingston. It is the oldest functioning canal in North America and a key part of Canada’s cultural legacy.
The Canadian Museum of History:
This museum is one of Canada’s most visited and admired. Its permanent exhibits showcase the country’s human history, while the museum’s striking architecture on the banks of the river further adds to its appeal.
